The Amyris BioAnalytics group is seeking an intern to facilitate strain and process improvement by identifying, evaluating and deploying new mass spectrometric and automation approaches for the analysis of strains using both wet lab and computational methodologies. The successful candidate will contribute to normal operations, maintenance and improvement of the metabolomics and proteomics platforms.

The position will be based within the BioAnalytics group in the Screening and Analytics Department at Amyris in Emeryville, CA, and will be dedicated to support of all R&D programs at Amyris. The successful candidate will collaborate broadly across a diverse set of scientific disciplines including biology, fermentation, analytics and computational biology in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Contribute to the improvement and operation of the omics platforms
Identify tools and approaches that improve data-driven decisions from omics datasets
Perform statistical analysis of complex datasets to aid in biological interpretation of data
Extract and prepare samples for mass spectrometric analysis of microbial cultures and derived compounds
Use LC/MS/MS and GC/MS equipment and software tools to acquire and QC data on extracted samples
Perform standard QA/QC procedures and routine maintenance on analytical instrumentation
Prepare laboratory notebooks, technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses
Present work at internal meetings

Currently enrolled in an MSc or PhD in analytical chemistry, biochemical engineering, biochemistry, systems biology, biophysics or related discipline
Hands-on experience with mass spectrometry-based metabolomics or proteomics
Hands-on experience with analysis software (MassHunter, MultiQuant or equivalent)
Experience using statistical packages and data visualization tools is a plus
