Climate-Change Integrated Yield Modeling Lead 9 views


We seek a candidate with strong analytic and decision making skills, as well as experience in understanding and applying diverse modeling approaches to challenging problems, to lead a small group of data scientists to build integrated models capble of diagnosing and predicting drivers of yield outcome at various scales. This position will involve working with a variety of data resources, and will require the ability to not only apply learning techniques to data but to also identify, understand and communicate limitations surrounding data quality and/or quantity, as well as methodologies, to an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers. This role will also be responsible for helping to keep pace with emerging capabilities and technologies, as well as exploring opportunities to accelerate data science in this area through coordinating resources internally across teams, as well as externally through exploring outside partnerships/tools/capabilities.
What You Will Do:

Lead a small team of data scientists to develop advanced models for predicting crop yields
Design and prototype models based on machine learning, data mining, and/or statistical modeling in order to solve challenging analytics problems ranging from exploratory to highly applied
Research, evaluate and pursue novel modeling frameworks and feature engineering methods
Contribute thought leadership to helping establish and execute on the team’s research agenda
Clearly and effectively communicate research vision, strategy, and outcomes to key stakeholders both internally and externally
Assist with high-level analysis, design, and code reviews
Basic Qualifications:

MS in Computer Science, High-Dimensional Statistics, Applied Math or other physical science involving computationally intensive research
At least 5 years of post-degree work experience, including industry experience with applying advanced modeling techniques, including machine and deep learning models
At least 2 years of people management experience
Demonstrated experience translating complex technical concepts to collaborators, decision makers, and non-technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in Computer Science, High-Dimensional Statistics, Applied Math or other physical science involving computationally intensive research
Project management and organizational skills
Strong drive to learn new topics and skills and to develop innovative products for our customers
Ability and inclination to work in multi-disciplinary environments, and desire to see ideas realized in practice
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
