This is a highly challenging position that draws heavily upon all of the analytical, creative, and interpersonal skills essential to effective regulatory, modeling, rates, and general strategy consulting. The ability to assume complete ownership of significant projects while at the same time being a part of and leading a close knit team is essential. Our managing consultants must organize their own tasks and schedules in carrying out substantial business analyses and delivering high quality, client-ready work. As our clients are often large, complex systems, these consultants must demonstrate considerable poise and business maturity to perform effectively and add value in the client environment.

The Associate Director capabilities and/or activities may include:

Direct and/or assist in coordination of research and development of new modeling platforms for analyzing and forecasting market behavior and regulatory analyses.
Contribute to management of detailed fact finding, research, and analysis on regulatory policies and filings, electricity and fuel market pricing, resource development, market development, environmental pricing and policies.
Lead and/or contribute to market analysis phases of selected consulting engagements.
Prepare and present analysis, reports, and other documents for internal and/or external client use.
Mentor junior staff.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously within budget and schedule.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or related fields. Master’s or Doctorate degree preferred.
Management consulting experienced preferred.
Experience in power system studies using powerflow models.
Willing and able to rapidly learn new modeling platforms.
Additional programming, data processing, and database software skills (e.g., Excel, Access, SQL, other programming languages (e.g., C++)) for versatility
Academic background and/or practical experience in some or all of the following: System Dynamics, linear and nonlinear optimization, Monte Carlo analysis, risk analysis and decision theory, consumer choice analysis, and statistics.
Working knowledge of current issues of the electricity markets in North America.
Detailed understanding and experience regarding ISO/RTO operations.
Deep understanding of Regulation and Regulatory processes at the Federal and State level.
Expertise in electric utility rate design and implementation.
Strong project management skills.
Mental/Physical Requirements
Communicate frequently with co-workers as well as with managers to discern their needs, and be able to express themselves
Strong conceptual, as well as quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
Flexibility and responsiveness in managing multiple projects in sometimes high-pressure situations simultaneously
Ability to direct and motivate members of your project teams
Able to travel via airplane with minimal assistance to client sites across the US and potentially internationally
Generally works in an office environment
