The Risk Strategy Lead takes responsibility for identifying, understanding and quantifying the risks inherent in our financial services business model, and identifies opportunities to utilize those same risks to advance Tesla’s objectives.
Scope – global financial services activities including automotive, solar, energy storage and the relevant risks including residual value, portfolio, enterprise credit, consumer credit, and operations.
The role is based in Fremont, California, reports to the Director Financial Services, and covers North America, EMEA, and APAC.
Risk identification and quantification – identify the existing and emerging risks in financial services. Understand, model, quantify and monitor those risks as they evolve with business changes and scale. This includes
Financial services activities supporting the automotive, solar, and energy storage products
Residual value risk on Tesla vehicles (Model S, Model X, and Model 3)
Credit risk – score card development & testing for consumer and commercial customers together with underwriting
Operational risk – risks inherent in financial services activities that can enhance operational efficiency, effectiveness and scaling
Risk Utilization – identify opportunities to better leverage and utilize risk supporting the scaling of the business. Work with senior management, cross-functional teams and the business to implement changes that balance risk with opportunity helping to achieve Tesla’s business objectives.
Bachelor’s degree from a top tier school, MBA or equivalent practical experience preferred
Strong ability to assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem
Experience creating comprehensive, innovative, actionable and simple risk insight models in either new asset risk classes or with a new approach to established asset classes
Demonstrated intellectually curiosity – a desire to understand how things work with an ability to validate through analytics and modeling
Demonstrated exceptional business acumen
Detail oriented and comfortable creating and working with large data sets
Familiarity with lending and leasing concepts, terminology, and calculations
Ability to work independently and quickly without compromising excellence and detail
Strong written and verbal communication skills
