Senior Manager, Business Development & Strategic Partnerships will join Stem’s Business Development team to lead the conceptualization, origination, development, negotiation and management of critical, partner-enabled growth initiatives for Stem. The scope of responsibilities for this role spans from strategic to tactical execution. A successful candidate will enable the company to realize critical growth initiatives with partners and channels, which will enable Stem to bring new offerings to market, more efficiently scale the growth of existing offerings, and facilitate market expansion. This role will report to Stem’s Director of Business Development – Strategic Partnerships and will be responsible for working closely with the broader BD leadership team to coordinate shared initiatives across utility and new market development.


  • Lead the growth strategy for identified strategic channels
  • Originate new growth opportunities with existing and new partners
  • Collaborate closely with partners and prospective partners on the development of growth initiatives, with meaningful benefit for both parties
  • Conduct the necessary strategic, economic and market analysis to support proposed partnership growth opportunities
  • Coordinate closely with cross-functional Stem colleagues to enable the successful realization of partnership initiatives; including working with Partner Sales team to plan and forecast partner bookings
  • Successfully manage the negotiation and execution of partnership term sheets and agreements
  • Support the onboarding of new partners, and training of relevant internal and partner stakeholders
  • Plan key partnership development milestones and regularly report against plan

  • Proven track record of collaborating with external parties and organizations to achieve shared business objectives
  • Highly effective in cross-functional environments, with demonstrated success leading teams with influence (i.e. dotted line management, partner management or client management)
  • Extremely high degree of professionalism and personal integrity, with a strong commitment to achieving success
  • Able to present strategic concepts to an executive level audience
  • Experience negotiating complex contracts, with disciplined attention to detail
  • Energy industry experience with strong energy business acumen
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills, including PowerPoint
  • Experience managing a portfolio of projects and making decisions and recommendations regarding prioritization of available resources
  • High caliber economic analysis capabilities, proficient in Excel
  • Experience modeling project level financials for renewable energy, energy storage or other distributed energy resources strongly preferred
  • Experience with modeling service agreements, shared savings or other customer and financing structures strongly preferred

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, and MBA preferred
  • 7+ years of business development and/or channel development experience
  • Clear understanding of regulated vs. unregulated energy markets and wholesale electricity markets
  • Preferred experience working with or selling to utilities
