SpaceX is currently seeking talented individuals for our Internship/Co-Op Program at our Vandenberg, CA launch site. SpaceX engineering interns play a significant role in the design, development, testing and manufacturing of spaceflight hardware. Here at SpaceX, you will obtain invaluable hands-on technical experience that you can’t learn in a classroom. Our engineering teams will help you to roll up your sleeves and apply text book theory and lab experience to creating solutions for real aerospace challenges. INTERNSHIP/CO-OP SUMMER 2018 (VANDENBERG, CA)

SpaceX’s CA coastal launch site is located at historic SLC-4 on Vandenberg Air Force Base. Vandenberg offers our customers critical access to polar orbits, frequently used by satellite communication constellations, defense intelligence and Earth-observing satellites, and some lunar missions. This is an ideal internship location if you are passionate about spaceflight and eager to work hands-on with flight hardware and ground support equipment. Our Vandenberg team is leading the charge on major process innovations for rapid reuse and reliable launch. VEHICLE AND PAYLOAD INTEGRATION: Our Vehicle and Payload Integration team performs final rocket assembly and runs checkouts on flight hardware at our Vandenberg launch site. Do you have what it takes to be part of the team that is the last set of hands and eyes on the rocket before launch operations begin? Interns will receive the opportunity to be directly involved in the hands-on assembly, integration and testing of flight vehicle assemblies. The teams’ biggest technical challenge for the year is shrinking onsite integration timelines from 6 weeks to just 48 hours.
LAUNCH PAD SYSTEMS AND OPERATIONS: As a team, the Launch Pad Systems and Operations engineers are responsible for all of the fluids systems (Liquid Oxygen, RP-1 kerosene, Helium, Nitrogen, hydraulics, and Air Conditioning systems), command and control (low voltage) infrastructure, and mechanical structures necessary to launch the Falcon 9. As an Associate Engineer, you’ll work closely with one of our engineers on system design, analysis, implementation, activation, and sustainment planning. Be there on the ground floor, getting your hands dirty and contributing directly to the success of future launches.
Must be currently enrolled at an accredited four-year university or college
Business Operations or Software applicants must be currently enrolled at an accredited university or college or within 6 month post-graduation
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
GPA of 3.5 or higher
Hands-on experience through lab research, project teams, prior internship or work experience
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment, accomplishing tasks with limited resources at a rapid pace
Intermediate skill level using Windows Operations Systems
Intermediate skill level using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Must be able to work full time for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks beginning in May/June 2018
Must pass Vandenberg Air Force background check
To access Vandenberg Air Force Base, must be able to provide own transportation
