The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for the statistical monitoring of operational performance of job cost accounting and reporting. This role also performs related general accounting activities. This position reports to the Cost Management Manager.

Cost Accounting

Maintain job costs including labor, materials, bulk freight, and inventory valuations
Identify and investigate variable variance (material, labor, OH) by items and communicate with the related departments to be reviewed
Update and analyze the labor hours by items weekly basis and prepare the report
Identify and resolve errors, investigate and resolve abnormal spoilage percentages
Monitor and process job cost time cards including identification and resolution of errors with appropriate department personnel
Maintain accurate unit costs for miscellaneous purchased materials in job cost
Open jobs as required to capture miscellaneous costs not appropriately chargeable to other jobs
Calculate cost of customer over consumption each period; open jobs as needed, enter costs and close over consumption jobs on a timely basis
Coordinate and communicate with others involved in job costing activities at period end to facilitate timely completion of job cost processing and development of the period end
Maintain file for perpetual calculation of cost incurred
Produce and distribute various period end job cost system reports, including: WIP/Closed Jobs, Chargeable/Non-Chargeable Report, WIP Labor Recap
Set up the annual standard cost and new inventory costing and maintain the standard cost as needed
Reconcile various accounts related to cost accounting monthly basis
Generate and export to Excel and manipulate various job cost reports for further use by others
Inventory Management

Ensure inventory moves occurring properly/accurately
Coordinate inventory evaluation tasks like E&O (Excess & Obsolescence), LCM (Lower Cost or Market), Cycle counts
Analysis and report about the inventory including WIP

Calculate and make recommendation for various accruals
Assist in supporting audits
Using various systems and data sources, maintain Excel spreadsheets, produce and distribute various Excel based reports


2-3 years’ experience in cost accounting
Thorough understanding of process costing, cost absorption, variance analysis, and account reconciliations
Hands on ERP and decision support system experience
Superior quantitative methods, accounting, and analytical skills
Experience developing spreadsheet models and reports
Experience with JD Edwards would be a plus, but not necessary
Familiar with manufacturing best practices and control disciplines would be a plus, but not necessary
Familiar with activity based costing methods in a manufacturing environment would be a plus, but not necessary
Adaptability to complete various tasks as business needs change

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and relevant managerial accounting work experience
