The Role
As part of the Infrastructure Modeling and Assessment Unit within the Zero Emission Vehicles Acceleration Branch, you’ll take on a technical leadership role at the center of California’s clean transportation transition. Your work will directly inform how and where electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure is built across the state.

You’ll dive into complex energy systems, build models that forecast charging demand, and translate massive datasets into actionable strategies. The insights you generate will guide public investments, shape policy decisions, and support equitable access to clean transportation.

What You’ll Do
Lead advanced modeling and analysis of EV charging infrastructure for light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles
Design and implement data-driven frameworks to forecast statewide charging needs
Conduct technical assessments of charging and refueling systems
Develop analytical workplans, reports, and recommendations that influence real-world decisions
Manage grants and contracts, ensuring accountability and results
Collaborate across agencies, industries, and research institutions to align efforts and accelerate progress
Work with large, complex datasets, integrating multiple data sources beyond traditional spreadsheet tools

Why This Work Matters
Your work will play a critical role in advancing California’s Clean Transportation Program and broader climate goals. From reducing emissions to improving air quality and expanding equitable infrastructure access, the outcomes of your analysis will be felt statewide.

What Sets You Apart
Experience conducting technical, economic, or engineering analyses related to EV infrastructure
Strong skills in data modeling and large-scale data analysis, including defining assumptions and interpreting results
Proven ability to manage public funding agreements, including grants or contracts
Exceptional communication skills—able to turn complex findings into clear, compelling insights
A collaborative mindset, with experience working across public agencies, private partners, and research teams

The Ideal Candidate
You’re equally comfortable writing code, presenting to leadership, and coordinating with stakeholders. You see patterns in complexity and opportunity in data. Most importantly, you want your work to mean something—to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable transportation system.

If you’re ready to apply your technical expertise to one of the most pressing challenges of our time, this is your chance to help build the infrastructure that will power California forward.
