Group: Subsurface Science & Technology
The Geophysics & Geomechanics Team within the Subsurface Science & Technology Group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a postdoctoral researcher with experience in computational solid mechanics to join us in our research in earth science, environmental science, and energy development. A major emphasis of the research to be conducted is to understand the effects of fluid injection and production on the subsurface stress state, fracture development, and fault slip. Responsibilities will include independent computational geomechanical model use and development. Regular peer-reviewed journal publications and presentations at technical conferences are expected. Some limited laboratory and field work may be required.
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
The candidate must have experience with computational solid mechanics (finite element method, or similar) and software development (Python, C++, FORTRAN preferred). Preferred candidates will be proficient in one or more of the following: machine learning, statistics, fracture mechanics, geology, and porous media flow modeling.
