Successful candidates will design, synthesize, and screen heterogeneous catalysts for the conversion of biomass-derived compounds to renewable fuels and chemicals. Tasks will also include the development of new separation and purification methodologies for fuel property and chemical product testing. The successful candidate will be able to conduct laboratory work independently and safely. The metrics for this position include catalyst design and synthesis, physical and chemical characterization of new catalysts, screening on model compounds and real substrates for catalyst activity, and authorship of peer-reviewed publications.
Minimum Qualifications: A recent Ph.D. (less than 3 years) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related field. Experience with synthesis, characterization, and testing of heterogeneous catalysts in batch and flow reactor systems. Demonstrated understanding of how mass transfer affects the kinetics and mechanisms of chemical reactions through experimental work. The ability to communicate scientific results effectively, both written and oral, and the ability to work effectively in a large, multidisciplinary team of engineers, chemists, material scientists, and computational researchers.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
Familiarity with physical and chemical characterization of heterogeneous catalysts, chemical and fuel property analysis, and biomass conversion.
