This is an internship opportunity for a post-master’s research associate to provide full-time (40 hr/wk), year-round technical support for a wide-variety of projects through participation and collaboration with multidisciplinary environmental science and engineering teams. The successful candidate will have a combination of coursework, experience, and knowledge in applied environmental science and engineering, and be capable of supporting projects executing scope related to environmental characterization and monitoring; system design, testing, and validation; and translation of laboratory and/or process simulation results to field-scale applications. Work scope will be conducted in both PNNL facilities as well as remote field locations such as the Hanford Site. A working familiarity with instrumentation and controls, plumbing, fabrication, and/or other field ready scientific equipment is desirable.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working with a diverse set of research staff and project tasks, and possess the appropriate analytic, task management, and communication skills (both oral and written) to contribute to the research activities. Excellent communication and technical writing skills are expected.

Accountabilities:
The selected candidate will be accountable to the following:
• The Environmental Assessment and Engineering Technical Group Manager for general staff performance and development, operational discipline (e.g., maintaining training qualifications, procedural compliance, safe operations), and promoting cooperation and teamwork within the technical group and project teams.

• Project and Task Managers for performing assigned roles, following applicable project, field, and laboratory procedures, and performance of assigned tasks on time and within budget.

**Minimum Qualifications**

Candidates must have received a Master’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required.

**Preferred Qualifications**

• MS/MA in environmental engineering or related science and technical domain degree.

• Perform basic and applied engineering and scientific tasks and activities with oversight.

• Cooperate with project team members and demonstrate mutual respect.

• Contribute to portions of journal papers, reports, software, proceedings, scientific and technical products. May contribute to the development of intellectual property leading to publications, copyrights and/or patents.

• Effective written and oral communication is required for this position as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively on diverse, multidisciplinary teams.

• Work to broaden and deepen own technical knowledge and skills

• Overall GPA of 3.25 or higher.

• Hands-on field-based experience and working familiarity with field equipment utilized for environmental monitoring and remediation.

• Coursework in hydrology, hydrogeology, geology, geophysics, or other environmental sciences.
