Role Overview

The Project Operations Associate provides support to the Project Controls team, including Schedulers, Cost Analysts, and the Project Controls Manager. This internship offers hands‑on exposure to project scheduling, cost control, data analysis, and reporting within large‑scale power generation and EPC projects.

The role is ideal for a student pursuing a career in project management, engineering, or business operations who is interested in infrastructure or energy projects. The Project Operations Associate will gain experience with industry tools such as Primavera P6, Excel, and Power BI while supporting day‑to‑day project controls activities.

Key Responsibilities

Support project schedulers with schedule updates, data entry, and formatting in Primavera P6 and Excel
Assist cost analysts with gathering and organizing financial data related to budgets, commitments, and actuals
Help maintain and update project dashboards and reports using Excel and Power BI
Prepare charts, graphs, and summaries for project progress and performance reporting
Participate in team meetings, take notes, and follow up on action items
Organize project documentation, schedules, and reports in shared drives or document control systems
Perform basic data quality checks and flag discrepancies for review
Support the Project Controls Manager with ad hoc tasks, including compiling performance metrics and coordinating with internal stakeholders
Assist with monthly project status updates and presentations
Learn and apply project controls concepts such as Critical Path Method, Earned Value Management, and schedule logic under supervision
Shadow team members to gain exposure to project controls tools, workflows, and communication practices
Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Construction teams to collect project data as needed

Requirements

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Industrial Engineering, Business, Construction Engineering, or a related field from a four‑year, ABET‑accredited institution
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to analyze information, prepare basic reports, and communicate findings effectively
Basic understanding of mathematical concepts including percentages, ratios, probability, and statistics
Strong problem‑solving and reasoning skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
Familiarity with project management or data visualization tools (Power BI, SharePoint, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Tableau, Power Apps, or Power Automate) is preferred but not required

Areas of Interest

Learning about project planning, scheduling techniques, and project controls methodologies
Developing skills in Critical Path Method scheduling, Earned Value Management, and progress reporting
Understanding how schedules, cost forecasts, and performance indicators are developed and monitored
Gaining exposure to project execution within the power generation and EPC industry
