Siemens PTI is seeking an experienced Power Systems Consultant to perform advanced large-scale simulations of electrical transmission systems for clients such as transmission providers, Independent Power Producers and system operators, in order to develop solutions for safe and reliable power system operations.
This position is integral to the Siemens PTI Management team headquartered in Schenectady, NY, and will require travel primarily in US, Canada and Mexico, however other international travel may be required, subject to regional client demands. Additional commitments will be Business Development support for existing and new client development, all associated talent acquisition and consulting activities in order to achieve corporate growth targets.
The successful candidate would have demonstrated capabilities in conducting advanced power system dynamics including model validation and adjustments based on field tests and in general good working knowledge of generation facilities both conventional and renewable.
The position is expected to report to our Houston Texas Office.
Job responsibilities will include the application of power systems planning principles, simulation and analysis of power system steady state and dynamic behavior, integration of renewable energy in power systems development of mathematical models to represent equipment in power system stability simulation, and delivery of on-site technical consulting/training services. This position will be responsible for NERC compliance verification and in particular with respect of the standards TPL-001-4 and MOD 025-2, MOD 026-1, MOD-027-1.
Required Knowledge/Skills and Experience:
The successful candidate should possess a BS/BA degree in Electrical Power Systems Engineering with at least 5-7 years of relevant experience in the electric power industry. Candidate should have solid and broad knowledge of the dynamic performance of power systems including transient stability, voltage stability, testing and validation of dynamic simulation models. Programming skills are required; Knowledge of PSS®E is preferred.
The specific requirements for the position include:
Conducting advanced large-scale simulations of electrical transmission systems including dynamic and voltage stability
Development of models to represent electrical equipment in power system stability simulation software, such as PSS®E
Experience in machine testing, model validation and machine parameter derivation based on analysis of field test data
Perform simulation modeling of control systems as well as conduct dynamic performance analyses of synchronous generators, excitation systems, and turbine governors
Dynamic modeling and model validation of wind turbine. solar PV and Energy Storage inverter models
Knowledge and experience with power system stabilizer tuning and model writing is preferred.

Conducts periodic status checks with customer and team to assess progress against plan. Provides training to clients as may be required. Prepares weekly status reports on all project activities. May develop pre-sales support activities as needed.
BS/BA in related discipline, or advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification may be required in some areas.
