To efficiently and effectively operate the characterization laboratory area and supervise the assigned technicians and scientists.

Essential Functions:

Position-Related Responsibilities:
Provide leadership, training and hands-on support to work teams and individuals.

Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures.

Plan/schedule activities and meet posted schedules.

Investigate new equipment and analytical methods of characterizing materials and products.

Support custom R&D measurement needs and reporting

Facilitate interactions with external laboratories and vendors

Create and revise characterization operating procedures

Work with quality to design and implement structured calibration/standardization procedure for all instruments in characterization area.

Development and continued maintenance of routine procedures for qualifying new traceable and in-house standards.

Ensure production data reports are compiled. Ensure analysis results are archived properly.

Enforce safety and area rules and ensure exemplary general housekeeping within work area.

General employee supervision and performance management, including maintaining attendance records; approve overtime and time off, drafting employee performance reviews.

Review resumes, interview candidates and make hiring recommendations as needed.

All other duties as assigned related to creating/providing an effective Characterization operation.

Management Responsibilities:
Ensure that the Company’s management principles, policies and programs are consistently practiced and continually support the Affirmative Action Plan.

Assume fiduciary responsibility for operating the business and provide recommendations on cost improvement measures.

Ensure that the Performance Management program is administered uniformly and effectively.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience:
Masters degree in Materials Science, Chemistry or Engineering

At least four years’ experience in a service laboratory environment.

Good math, physics, written and oral communication skills

Mechanically and electronically inclined

Able to work efficiently and effectively with little supervision

PC’s, Windows, general office software
