Reporting to the SVP, Sales & Marketing the Director, Business Development will ultimately lead the development and execution of solar system sales, site leases and power purchase agreements, with high value customers. After successful completion of Safari Energy’s, Business Development Leadership Program, (BDLP) He or she will be expected to be part of a team that supports Senior BD Leaders to cultivate customer relationships as well as to execute the development aspects of a solar deal. Experience structuring complex, multi-faceted transactions that maximize economic value, executing deals, building relationships and leading teams is required, as well as the desire and entrepreneurial mindset to operate successfully as a senior leader within a fast-paced, results driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Completion of 9-12 month BDLP focused on financial analysis and modeling, utility interconnect and incentive modeling, and senior sales and marketing strategies
  • Maintaining and cultivating relationships – both at a conceptual level with CEOs, CFOs, etc. as well as at a hands-on level with utility / facility / property managers
  • Managing multiple new live deals simultaneously, while mining existing portfolio’s for growth
  • Working closely with customers to understand and manage all substantive project issues around tax, legal, and financial aspects of a deal
  • Interfacing with Finance team to develop and structure customer-specific finance solutions
  • Interfacing with Project Development team on utility and incentive related matters
  • Interfacing with the Operations team on all structural and technical solar project aspects
  • Supporting and Leading deal teams to meet both customer expectations and Safari expectations

  • Successful completion of rotational training program while simultaneously supporting business development deal teams
  • Quickly come up to speed on existing projects and current pipeline
  • Identify and pursue key new business development opportunities
  • Develop, build and manage internal and external relationships
  • Foster an environment of cohesive teamwork that delivers best-in-class service and superior results to customers

Qualifications:
Must be passionate about the renewable energy business, hardworking and thrive in the fast pace of a performance based company with tremendous growth potential. In addition, the Director, Business Development must possess:

  • Minimum of 5 years banking, consulting or business development experience, preferably in energy, real estate or other structured project finance related area
  • Ability to perform tax and financial modeling to support business development activites
  • Experience in reviewing and comprehending detailed legal contracts with the ability to provide oversight to internal finance and legal teams
  • Proven ability to cultivate relationships and execute deals with senior management
  • Track-record of successfully executing complex transactions with multiple parties
  • Ability to motivate, manage and lead a team
  • Outstanding organizational and people skills
  • Understanding of project and structured finance
  • Desire to play a key role building a high growth company

Education
