The Land Acquisition Specialist is responsible for securing land positions for the company across the United States. He or she is the primary point of contact with landowners and will perform all aspects of land acquisition including: negotiation of price and terms, completing due diligence, and executing various land contracts. The Land Acquisition Specialist works closely with the Project Development, Business Development, and Legal teams regarding land strategy.


To perform this role, the Land Acquisition Specialist is expected to:

Initiate communication and establish/maintain working relationships with prospective landowners with enthusiasm and accuracy
Be the primary liaison between landowners and internal teams for all project related activities affecting the landowner and the property
Work with landowners to outline and understand development limits, access, and other site considerations that could affect solar array layout and installation
Undertake market research and land valuations to determine fair lease rates
Represent the company in negotiations of lease rates and terms
Travel to site locations to meet landowners and support the Project Development team in evaluating potential sites
Support drafting and negotiating of letters of intent, lease/purchase option agreements, rights-of-way and easements, and other commercial documents related to land acquisition
Participate in internal decision-making on land opportunities and strategies, including prioritization of outreach efforts accordingly
Build partnerships with community members and local governments
Manage external contractors and personnel
Gain government or regulatory approval for right-of-way easements, access easements, or other issues related to site control
Maintain up-to-date database of all land outreach efforts
Participate as an integral member of the Project Development team

Superlative oral and written communication skills
Ability to work with diverse landowners in an adaptive and effective manner
Self-starter with ability to operate and succeed in competitive markets
Prioritizes internal communication and collaboration
General knowledge of land contracts and transactions
Demonstrated results negotiating commercial deals, preferably related to land
Interest and ability to be the face of the company for land acquisitions
Excitement for utility-scale solar energy
Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously
Ability and willingness to travel extensively
