The Cell R&D Lab Integration Engineer defines process requirement for new equipment, works with Equipment Engineers assisting in specifications/requirements for the new equipment and facilities, attends all design reviews, acts as a PM (project manager) for initial tool install, set up and qualification, and final tool acceptance. Will manage equipment projects and interface with external vendors/material suppliers, consultants, customers, etc. to meet project objectives and timelines. May assist in equipment source inspection. Innovates, focusing on tool or process step simplification and cost reduction.
The Cell R&D Lab Integration Engineer reports to the Lab Operations Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribute to tool design and supply critical input to equipment design reviews
May assist with equipment and vendor selection/down selection
Drive problem solving and troubleshooting of complex capital equipment
Manage and justify complex projects and lead small project teams
Utilize statistical problem-solving methodology such as FMEA, 8D and the likes
Compile and evaluate test data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications.
May conceive and plan projects involving definition and selection of new concepts, equipment automation technology, and approaches in the processing or development of new or improved processes.
Work with SunPower business processes as required to meet project objectives and timelines.
Lead interdepartmental and cross-functional teams (R&D and Manufacturing) to achieve project objectives and timelines. Collaborate with external vendors/material suppliers, consultants, customers, etc. to meet project objectives and timelines.
Provide technical leadership to improve electrical and mechanical yield, suggest and implement solutions to process related issues.
Provides concise reports detailing the progress, status and outlook for projects assigned
Drive facility preparation, tool installation and startup at SunPower’s production facilities in San Jose. May extend to assist initial tool introduction to Fabs in Asia
Establish training, tool maintenance and troubleshooting documentation and systems
Generate and manage budgets and schedules
Pioneer improved business processes and methods related to Lab and facilities operations.
Innovate tool or process step simplification and cost reduction
Explore/develop new manufacturing technologies/tools for next-generation devices and processes
May be required to temporarily travel to vendors and our factories in Asia and Europe
Complies, at all times, with the Environment, Health and Safety and Manufacturing Quality standards, rules and regulations
Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the immediate superior
RELATED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education and Experience:
B.S. degree in Engineering and 5+ years of related experience or M.S. Degree and 2+ years or Ph.D. and 0+ years
OR equivalent combination of education and years of related experience
Experience in Process and/or Equipment Engineering related to semiconductor or photovoltaic industries
Good understanding of fundamental, theories and principle of Engineering, Physics and Chemistry
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Oracle, JMP.
Experience with mechanical design, automation and controls preferred
Machine Programming i.e. PLC/ Visual basic, Macro and or the likes is an advantage
Experience with furnaces, etching, CVD, Laser marking, scribing, die testing also preferred.
Experience /and familiarity with statistical problem solving methodology such as Equipment Fingerprinting, Tool Lockdown, design FMEA, 8D, and the likes
