Holiday Inspiration

Holiday Inspiration

OK, it’s your Holiday and/or Break time.  Time to enjoy family, friends and free time – and not worry about getting a job or internship. Fair enough. But if you feel a little bored or guilty, I suggest you get some inspiration from young professionals working in renewables. It’s easy and energizing. Here’s how.

Go to Linkedin, click Advanced Search. Even with your non-premium subscription, you will be able to set the following filters:

  • Location = United States
  • Industry = Renewables & Environment
  • School = Your School
  • Title = [you need to think here.] The word(s) should fit your major. Here some ideas: analyst, intern, research, “business development,” “project management,” engineer, “chemical engineer,” outreach, marketing, etc.   You may want to not specify a job title if you’re trying to get ideas of what kind of job roles are out there for you.

Now, just sip your latte and scope these people (but ignore the old faces). Check out their employers, their specific sector (e.g., solar, wind, etc.), and their job titles. Look at where they worked before, especially if they worked outside clean energy before. The point here is that this could be you. Artists, musicians and creative people generally borrow from those before them. Why not you? This is a fun way to get ideas and a little inspiration without zero accountability; just perfect for break, right?
