The Cell Applications Engineer is responsible supporting customers in the direct use of individual A123 battery cells and also for High Voltage and/or Low Voltage battery pack assemblies. Responsibilities include: compiling customer technical requirements; translation into internal engineering requirements; driving those requirements into the design organization (internal and external). The Cell Applications Engineer also acts as the primary engineering interface with the customer with respect to A123 battery cells.


  • Act as the primary engineering interface to both internal and external customers.
  • Collect customer requirements, evaluate compliance, and note areas of non-conformance and/or opportunities for requirements modification
  • Develop battery performance specifications
  • Create battery pack Interface and Control Documents
  • Release battery pack engineering documents, drawings, etc. into corporate system
  • Create and manage pack DVP&R
  • Support manufacturing plant in resolving build issues related to pack design
  • Support customer integration efforts through appropriate means, such as conference calls, data log analysis, and travel to customer sites
  • Coordinate activities of engineering teams to resolve issues
  • Develop and maintain realistic project milestones and deliverables using appropriate tools
  • Track and report project status
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope
  • Ensure team follows established development processes
  • Contribute to process improvement activities
  • Follow and improve upon best practices and tools for project execution and management


  • BSEE/BSME and 3+ years of automotive engineering experience
  • Solid trouble-shooting skills; Shainin problem solving experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of engineering tools such as CANalyzer and CAD viewers
  • Experiencing with creating DVP&Rs and DFMEAs
  • Experience in releasing products
  • Experience in working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently
  • Flexibility during times of change.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, including customer interface skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in an occasionally high-pressure environment
  • Experience with Electric Vehicles and/or low voltage/high voltage systems a plus
  • OEM or Tier 1 supplier experience a plus
