As Program Operations Associate, you will support Stem’s business activities with regards to Grid and Demand Response programs and utility contracts. The primary focus of the position is to assist in the execution of Stem’s utility contracts and demand response programs, with a focus on operational excellence. As a member of the Utility Program team you will work closely with multiple internal groups and be exposed to Stem’s business, end to end. This effort includes process design and implementation, contract compliance, reporting, technical modeling, and settlement activities. You will support strategic plans on how to design, implement, and scale DR programs within the company and with external stakeholders.  You must demonstrate a blend of business, technical, and executional expertise. You will be comfortable working with all departments within the company from Sales to Product Development and Analytics, along with external utility partners.  You will report into the Utility Program Management team.


  • Execute assets enrollment process for Stem’s utility programs:
    • Enforce quality standards on customer program enrollment forms
    • Maintain and update customer enrollment form templates
    • Submit enrollment materials to utility/ISOs for final confirmation in a timely manner
    • Track customer eligibility in Salesforce and coordinate with other stakeholders to resolve any conflicts
  • Calculate, report, and document program performances
    • Leverage performance tools and knowledge of program rules to calculate performance with interval data
    • Organize and submit all relevant data for end use providers adhering to program deadlines
    • Document and report performance for internal stakeholder
  • Manage program invoicing and billing
    • Calculate revenue, penalty, and provider payment values resulting from demand response participation in the preceding month
    • Assist with Accounting Team’s monthly and quarterly financial activities: organize all relevant data, create billing statements, as well as monitor and verify utility and vendor payments
    • Update and verify the accuracy of our provider payment and utility invoice records to ensure correct transactions
  • Support additional operational functions to facilitate successful program delivery
    • Ensure that we adhere to all program compliance requirements by managing recurring reporting and/or transactions
    • Support internal teams to facilitate operational transactions
    • Perform and present in-depth analysis to help enable accurate business decisions and/or process improvements
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational activity through tool and process development
  • Manage incoming requests, recurring program updates, and ad-hoc transactional tasks as needed

Required Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a technical, analytical, or business discipline
  • 1 – 2 years of experience working in an operationally oriented team environment

Desired Skills

  • Demonstrated interest or experience in cleantech, data analytics, and operational efficiency
  • Familiarity with software development workflows and software tools such as JIRA and Confluence
  • Experience in: business operations,, process improvement and controls, project management
  • Strong customer relations and communication skills
