We are seeking a Integration Engineer with a strong background in third-party integrations and Python programming to join our SmartBidder team. The SmartBidder team is growing quickly and is directly impacting the clean energy transition by helping Ascend’s clients realize the value of renewable energy and storage projects.

As an Integration Engineer, you will be the technical bridge between our platform and the complex ecosystem of external systems that manage renewable energy assets, interface with energy markets, and provide critical data for optimizing energy market participation. This role combines deep technical development with strategic client partnership—you’ll spend time both building robust integration solutions and working directly with clients to ensure seamless onboarding experiences.

Job Responsibilities
Analyze and translate third-party system requirements by reviewing API documentation, technical specifications, and collaborating with external technical teams to define actionable development work
Develop, execute, and refine comprehensive integration test plans for both new and existing system connections
Lead integration testing initiatives for new partnerships while supporting routine integrations across our growing client base
Serve as the primary technical liaison during client onboarding, working closely with our internal team and external stakeholders to ensure smooth integration deployments
Provide expert technical guidance and support throughout the integration lifecycle, from initial setup through go-live and ongoing maintenance
Deliver exceptional client experiences by proactively identifying and resolving integration challenges
Build and maintain Python-based integration tools and platforms that streamline our connection processes
Develop automation solutions including credential management systems, testing frameworks, and deployment tools
Continuously enhance our integration capabilities to support Ascend’s rapid growth and evolving client needs

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
3+ years experience in implementing third-party integrations and/or as a technical sales resource for a software product
Strong proficiency in Python
Extensive experience with data structures and API schemas, including an understanding of API design philosophies and patterns including common communication protocols (SOAP, REST) and data formats (JSON, XML).
Understanding of security requirements of integration work
Tenacity to navigate ambiguity and gather clear requirements from third-parties
Ability to flexibly work on multiple workstreams in parallel based on sometimes tight and shifting client timelines
Familiarity with project management to stay organized and manage, track, and communicate progress internally and externally

Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with SCADA systems
Familiarity with Azure environments and Microsoft DevOps
Background in energy and/or electricity markets

Compensation: $105,000 – $135,000
Negotiable based on qualifications and experience. Ascend highly values our employees and often pays above industry average.
