E Source has an exciting opportunity for a Power System Engineer (EMT Studies) in its Renewables and Power Grids service area. Our team provides creative, cost effective, and practical solutions to stakeholders in power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The engineer must demonstrate vision and drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth of the Power Systems Advisory business in North America. The ideal candidate will contribute by delivering technical insights and providing excellent customer service.

How You’ll Help
Perform advanced Electro-magnetic Transient (EMT) Studies including:
Sub-synchronous resonance (SSR)
Sub-synchronous control interaction (SSCI)
Ferro-resonance, TOV, SOV, TRV, and harmonic studies
Inrush current analysis, insulation coordination, and model quality testing (MQT)
Develop and tune PSCAD/EMTP-RV models and benchmark them against PSSE for model validation (MQT).
Model and fine-tune inverter-based resources (IBRs) such as wind, solar, and battery-storage systems.
Produce and review technical reports and presentations for clients.
Ensure on-time delivery of high-quality studies within budget.
Stay current with industry standards including IEEE, NERC, and CIGRE.
Develop automation scripts (e.g., in Python, MATLAB) to improve simulation efficiency and accuracy.
Contribute to internal innovation and research, including development of new techniques and tools.
(Optional but valued) Experience with data center modeling and studies.
What Will Make You a Great Fit
Master’s or PhD in electrical engineering, with a specialization in power systems and control.
Hands-on experience with PSCAD or EMTP-RV for EMT simulation.
Familiarity with control systems of power electronic devices and IBRs.
Strong understanding of:
Electric power system fundamentals
Renewable energy integration
Small-signal and large-signal system stability
Power system transient and dynamic studies
Experience scripting in Python, MATLAB, or similar, to automate simulation workflows.
Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability to thrive in a team-based, client-facing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Active P.Eng. (Canada) or PE (USA) license.
Doctorate focused on electric power system transients.
Experience with SSR studies and transient analysis.
Familiarity with other simulation tools: PSS/E, DigSILENT PowerFactory, TSAT, TARA, ASPEN.
Working knowledge of ISOs and market interconnection practices (e.g., ERCOT, AESO, MISO, PJM, NY-ISO, etc.).

The Budgeted Salary For This Position Is
$80,000–$140,000 USD
$90,000–$150,000 CAD
We are hiring junior–senior levels for this position. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
This role will be remote, with some travel required in the US and ability to travel occasionally to Canada.
