Job Title: Electrical Engineer – Power Electronics

Summary:
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the electrical design, optimization, testing, and technical support of the power electronics used in ElectraTherm’s Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power generators. This role involves equipment selection, technical analysis, drawing creation, troubleshooting, and supporting global utility code certifications. The engineer will assist with machine commissioning, customer troubleshooting, and test plan execution, requiring both strong technical skills and hands-on work. The position also requires flexibility to support international customers in different time zones and occasional travel for field assignments.
Reports To: Engineering Manager

Essential Duties and Tasks

Design, develop, and optimize power electronics systems for ORC power generators
Support global utility code certifications (e.g., EN50549, G99) through testing and documentation
Prepare and execute comprehensive test plans, including hands-on test cell work
Create and maintain technical drawings, schematics, and documentation using IEC standards and SolidWorks Electrical
Provide technical support to customer service and commissioning teams for troubleshooting and startup
Assist customers with grid connection agreements and regulatory compliance
Conduct technical analysis to develop innovative, cost-effective power electronic solutions
Travel domestically and internationally for commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting
Support cross-functional engineering projects and system integration efforts

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
Power Electronics Expertise: Knowledge of grid-tied power production and industrial control cabinet design.
Technical Documentation: Ability to create and manage IEC electrical schematics and maintain version control.
Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities with a focus on innovative solutions.
Software Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Excel (including VBA macros); SolidWorks Electrical experience a plus.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional teamwork and customer interaction.
Global Mindset: Ability to support international projects, including flexibility with work hours across time zones.
Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Experience: 2–5 years of relevant engineering experience.
Preferred Experience: Exposure to grid codes, utility connection agreements, and thermodynamic/heat transfer principles.
Knowledge: Industrial control cabinet design, power electronics, and grid-tied systems.
Preferred Certifications: SolidWorks Electrical training or equivalent experience.
Work Environment:
Office and laboratory/test cell environments.
Occasional international travel to customer sites and commissioning locations.
Standard PPE required when working in test environments (safety glasses, gloves, etc.).
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand, walk, and perform hands-on testing in lab environments.
May occasionally lift up to 40 lbs of equipment or components.
