Commercial Mechanical Designers at PEG will have the opportunity to design mechanical and plumbing systems for multi-family residential and light commercial projects using the industry’s leading modeling software. This position requires someone with strong knowledge of mechanical fundamentals and experience in the construction industry. PEG specializes in green building and design which we incorporate in each project. We are looking for someone self-motivated, detailed oriented, and hardworking to add to our dynamic team.

THE ROLE

Job Location:
This position is located in our main office in Fairfax, VA.

Essential Functions:
Perform and review HVAC load calculations, duct sizing, and system sizing per ASHRAE and ACCA Standards
Perform plumbing calculations for residential, multi-family, and small commercial projects using International Plumbing Codes
Prepare mechanical and plumbing construction drawings using AutoCAD MEP
Analyze mechanical and plumbing engineering problems and formulate solutions
Create new projects and/or modify existing projects using engineering software such as Trane Trace, Wrightsoft Suite, AutoCAD MEP, RESCheck, COMCheck, etc.
Communicate any auditing areas to Management and provide options for resolution
Manage project flow and deadlines efficiently and in a timely manner
Receive and understand client constraints
Manage and control all data through Excel and SharePoint
Understand current IECC, IMC, IPC, IBC, IRC, and state codes
Learn new engineering skills and take continued education seminars as needed or required
Organize scope into major categories to outline deliverables and milestones
Determine primary timetable for deliverables
Interface with Operations, Owners, and Subcontractors to discuss impact of work and resolution of problems.

Education/Experience:
B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
Candidate must have an EIT (Fundamentals of Engineering Exam) or be willing to take the EIT Exam within 3 months of hire
Candidate must have a CHD (Certified HVAC Design) Certification or be willing to obtain the certification within 1 year of hire
P.E. Certification is NOT required. LEED Certification is NOT required but is a PLUS.
4 to 6 years of relevant work experience in commercial projects such as 4-story townhomes, apartment buildings, condo buildings, and 1-story commercial projects including but not limited to office (tenant) fit outs, garages, restaurants, and lounges.

Additional Requirements:
Advanced Proficiency in Engineering Software such as AutoCAD MEP
Proficiency in HVAC software such as Wrightsoft
Strong attention to detail, a sense of ownership and responsibility of projects that are submitted
Deadline-Oriented
Efficient Time Management Skills
