Position Overview:

Solid Power is seeking a Product Development Chemist to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next-generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative team environment. This position will be a part of the Technology Integration Formulations group, assisting in the transition of Solid Power’s proprietary solid state electrode technology to mass production. The Product Development Chemist will be responsible for interfacing with R&D, Powder Production and Engineering teams to facilitate the scaling of both key process improvements and next-generation technologies.

Job Duties:

Develop separator and electrode formulations and processing methods.
Support new product platform development through robust slurry formulation design coating application optimization, and post-coat processing durability.
Test new product developments against a wide range of requirements and customer specifications.
Plan and execute DOE (Design of Experiments) independently, utilize statistical tools for results analysis, and determine the importance of multiple factors/parameters.
Perform materials characterization and post-mortem analysis.
Source, characterize, and evaluate materials from various suppliers.
Aid in development of manufacturing procedures.
Develop and validate quality control test methodologies.
Maintain general lab safety and daily work cleanliness.
Write reports and present the project progress internally and externally.
Use the company’s document and change control system to properly archive technical documentation.
Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members.
Effectively communicate ideas, concepts, designs, and results to the team.
Contribute to technical writing of grants, patents, and reports.
Work independently and efficiently to reach goals with target timelines.
Support procurement and operation of new chemical characterization equipment.
Clearly disseminate procedures and work instruction to operators and technicians.
Proficient verbal and written communication skills as reflected in written reports and technical presentations.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field plus 1-3 years of industry experience.
Basic knowledge of the field’s standards and specifications.
Application of basic chemistry techniques to optimize manufacturing processes.
Experience in solid-state battery development is a plus.
Experience assembling coin, Swagelok, and pouch cells and conduct cell testing is a plus.
Experience with chemical and physical characterization techniques, e.g., rheology, SEM, EDS, Raman, XRD, and particle size determination.
Self-motivated and able to work with little supervision.
Strong problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
May need to lift up to 50 pounds.

Salary Range: $61,000 – $98,000/Annually
