Position Summary

The geothermal core drilling geologist will provide on-site supervision of core drilling operations and conduct core/chip logging at geothermal prospects in the western USA. Key responsibilities will include communicating with drillers, assessing progress, providing geologic guidance and interpretations, and reporting to management. The geothermal core drilling geologist will serve as the designated Ormat representative at the drilling site and will communicate company directives for drilling operations, including maintaining safe work practices in accordance with Ormat standards. The geothermal core drilling geologist will provide detailed technical logs of diamond drill core and rotary chips as well as regular written progress reports to Ormat management. Additionally, coordination and supervision of vendors performing downhole surveys, acoustic logs, and well testing is required. Core sampling for laboratory analysis may be required.

Essential Functions

Supervise drilling operations for core well drilling onsite for 12hr shifts and on-call as needed
Communicate clearly and directly with drilling contractors on program objectives and procedures
Communicate Ormat directives to all 3rd party contractors
Report on project progress daily or as needed to management and technical team
Log core and chips and maintain a consistent digital log that details lithology, fracture characteristics, alteration, and mineralogy
Log daily drilling activities and maintain a consistent digital report of well history

Job Requirements

Works without risk or harm to self or others.
Safely operate both on and off-road vehicles.
Properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
Recognize, control, and communicate safety or environmental hazards
Must possess at any time a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to ORMAT’s auto insurance carrier

Education, Experience, And Skills Required

Bachelor’s Degree in Geology
Experience in drilling operations
Experience in well logging and/or core logging
Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures.
Demonstration of independent work and excellent technical communication
Must be able to read, write and speak English at a level which will permit the employee to accurately understand and communicate information to perform the job duties safely and efficiently
Works under general supervision of Resource Manager and Project Geologist

Physical Requirements

The ability to navigate and work in remote field locations and work outdoors in adverse weather conditions
The ability to walk, hike, and work on steep, rough terrain for extended periods of time
The ability to safely operate 4WD light vehicles on highways and off-road
The ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
The ability to periodically lift 50 lbs.
The ability to work remotely on a rotational schedule
The ability to work in an office environment
