Job Summary And Description

This is an internship position for a student to support an R&D project related to the development of a hardware testbed with programmable inverters. Looking for a student who can work in the 2024 summer semester (May-August).

Duties & Responsibilities

The student will support the EPRI team by:

Developing grid forming (GFM) and grid following (GFL) inverter models in electromagnetic transients (EMT) simulation tools
Programming inverter microcontrollers
Conducting laboratory experiments on a hardware testbed

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering required
2 years of PhD studies (preferred)

Ideal Candidate

Electrical engineering Ph.D student with emphasis on power systems
Strong experience with inverter controls
Strong experience with microcontroller programming (preferably Texas Instruments C2000)
Strong experience with electromagnetic transients simulation tools (preferably PSCAD and Simulink)
Strong programming skills (preferably Python and Matlab)
