Job Description

The Data, Analysis, and Visualization Group within NREL’s Computational Science Center has an opening for a graduate student researcher focusing on Visualization techniques, with special emphasis on uncertainty visualization and decision-making. The researcher will support the research and development of applications that enable actionable decision-making with high-dimensional ensemble simulation data. The researcher will also assist in designing and prototyping, and informing future workflows that enhance collaborative visualization techniques and capabilities.

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated researcher with a strong technical background and an interest in the mission of NREL. The successful candidate will collaborate with NREL staff and researchers to design, develop, and implement custom data-driven visualization applications.

Responsibilities Include

Assist in the development of visualizations of multi-run, large scale, high-dimensional data for decision making
Collaborate with NREL researchers to design, prototype, and test novel visualization techniques
Navigate and utilize necessary software development frameworks and languages (e.g., web technologies, python, JavaScript etc.)
Process NREL datasets and integrate domain models into application workflows
Assist in the authoring, preparation, and presentation of technical papers, reports, and conference proceedings on topics related to visualization, workflows, and human-computer interaction techniques

Basic Qualifications

Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited institution.

Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.

Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master’s degree program from an accredited institution.

Post Graduate: Earned a master’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.

Graduate + PhD: Completed master’s degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution.

Additional Required Qualifications

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile: / Annual Salary Range: $42,700 – $68,300
