Overview:
The Computing and Information Technology Directorate works to re-imagine how digital technologies can simplify the research experience, enable data-driven insights for decision makers, and accelerate PNNL’s research missions. CIT helps connect staff to systems while enabling a broader research computing ecosystem to improve productivity and provide a sense of community.

Research Computing advances scientific discovery by providing computational tools and expertise to accelerate and demonstrate research outcomes. We support computationally enabled science by providing computational building blocks (e.g., HPC, Machine Learning environments, Data Management Tools etc.). In addition, we provide services, expertise, and support to researchers to optimize their use of our capabilities (e.g., Human Centered Design, UX, Software Engineering, HPC Consulting, Cloud Deployment, etc.). Lastly fostering a culture of computing through interdisciplinary collaboration, community building, and access to computational resources.

This is an opportunity for you to shape your career as you contribute to nationally significant projects, these may cover environmental remediation, carbon neutral energy solutions, secure Grid operations, national security, Operational Applications, and climate science support.

Initially you will join existing project teams, to soak up the research culture and operate within specific design, brand and guidelines and standards. As your career develops you will be given increasing autonomy to build your own opportunities within the Lab and developing opportunities for other staff to follow.

Responsibilities:
Defines user requirements, designs, develops design specifications, documents user stories, interaction and visual requirements, tests, and evaluates through usability studies new and existing software systems, hardware/software interfaces, and/or applications. Works collaboratively within a team to execute on the full system development lifecycle including analyzing user needs to determine technical requirements; developing technical specifications based on conceptual design and requirements; automating manual tasks; and consulting with the end user to prototype, configure, refine, test, and evaluate programs or systems to meet needs. Identifies and evaluates new technologies or methods for implementation and continuous improvement
