Salary: $25 per hour, 40 hours per week
Contract: 12 week contract- Summer 2026 (June 1st Start Date)
Reporting to: Director of Thermofluids Engineering
Your Role In The Mission
The Thermofluids Engineering division at Type One Energy performs all the heat transfer and fluid dynamics work on a variety of systems across the fusion machine. This includes problems spanning a wide range of the temperature spectrum from removing the heat generated by fusion to keeping our superconducting magnets cold.
In this role, you will be introduced to thermodynamic, fluid flow, and heat transfer analyses and learn both analytical and numerical techniques to solving such problems while gaining real-world engineering experience.
Perform thermodynamics calculations for sizing the capacity of the RRP cryoplant, and the Magnet Program’s cryogenics systems.
Perform analytical thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid flow calculations relevant to fusion devices.
Perform numerical simulations on thermohydraulic problems relevant to fusion devices.
Use the analyses performed to provide insight into the design of the relevant systems / subsystems
Collaborate with other groups to engineer the interfaces between relevant interacting systems
Create and maintain appropriate documentation in terms of memos, presentations, and other forms as appropriate.
Contribute to creating a collaborative working environment.
What You’ll Need
Currently undertaking a degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering with a focus on thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
An understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Be curious, open-minded, and willing to learn.
