Summary:
Strata Solar Services is currently seeking a full-time Energy Analyst to join our Performance Analytics team, which is responsible for optimizing the energy output of our operating fleet of solar power plants through ongoing reporting, conducting performance analyses, and using industry research and PV system design principals to drive models.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Power Plant Performance Reporting
Review ongoing ticketing data and outage logs to conduct weekly outage reports and monthly availability metrics.
Organize and validate planned outage data to support production forecasting for utility-scale PV systems.
Conduct monthly PV system weather-adjusted and outage-adjusted expected energy modeling and reporting through an internal Python-based model.
Participate on calls with customers answering questions on PV system performance and recommending possible next steps for performance investigation.
Design data visuals and written reports for audiences ranging from technical to management personnel.
Work with data analyst to develop and implement intelligent data cleaning and analyses tools to streamline performance model processes.
PV System Performance Evaluation and Troubleshooting
Work with performance engineers and other PA team members to identify potential PV system component failure, potential modeling issues, and site design to troubleshoot performance of current PV systems
Identify trends in DC-side underperformance due to seasonality, tracking issues, soiling, shading, module degradation, fuse issues etc.
Recommend investigative or corrective action to field teams and system owners
Contribute to ongoing research efforts to improve modeling of PV systems throughout their lifetime.
Calculate system losses and system availability from site telemetry as needed.
Complete ad hoc performance investigations as requested from others within the company as well as customer entities.
Field Testing and Troubleshooting Support, as needed
Coordinate collection of and review of field testing data such as PV array infrared imaging and open-circuit voltage testing to identify modules with performance issues or component failure.
Identify the fault patterns based on the electrical characteristics (I-V Curve, open-circuit voltage, hotspot, potential short-circuit) and use as defect evidence in potential warranty claims.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Must be able to begin with a problem statement and drive energy analysis projects to completion with minimal day-to-day supervision

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Bachelors degree in engineering, renewable energy systems, materials science, applied mathematics or related field
One year experience in either quantitative modeling or PV systems operations highly preferred
Experience running Python scripts, R scripts, SQL queries, or similar preferred
Familiarity with modeling expected system output for utility-scale PV projects through PVsyst, PVlib, SAM or similar software preferred
Ability to interact with various outside parties professionally via telephone and in-person
Strong organizational skills necessary to document and track issues from inception to resolution
Outstanding problem solving skills with the ability to analyze situations and recommend solutions
Ability to work in a team environment
