Summary

The Human Resources & Safety Specialist is an integral part of the Human Resources assisting with executing the organization’s overall risk and safety strategy functions. This individual will provide Human Resources & Safety expertise and safety program support in areas including but not limited to employee, volunteer, neighbor and site safety; safety training; incident and accident investigations; ;and OSHA regulatory and other licensing compliance. This role will also support Human Resources management activities in various divisions throughout the organization while maintaining confidentiality regarding Human Resources related issues.

Essential Job Function & Responsibilities

Works with HR team to address any employment relational issue under HR Director
Works with HR and Safety team regarding ADA, FMLA, FLSA, workers’ compensation, hiring procedures, job requirements, training and light duty assignments
Assists with new employee orientations and onboarding processes
Assists with developing and updating HR and company policies and procedures
Provides support for human resources related activities
Manage employee’s time & attendance as a collaborative partner to the HR Generalist
Under the direction of Human Resources, audits and assists in the development and implementation of procedures involving employee safety and training according to federal, state and local regulations
Maintains employee records of training, performance and regulatory requirements
Facilitates site inspections and maintains Safety Inspection records
Facilitates regular and as needed safety meetings and committee meetings
Maintains and stocks safety and first aid supplies
Coordinates the Emergency Response plan, and works with Safety Manager to maintain Emergency Code processes for the organization
Assist with Safety Manager for ad hoc Safety compliance reports
Investigates and determines root cause for employee and non-employee safety related incidents; reviews with Safety Manager and follows up on corrective actions and preventative measure
Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Preferred graduation from an accredited College or University with studies in Human Resources, Business or Occupational Safety
Min. 2 years’ experience in HR & Safety
Time & Attendance management experience preferred
Preferred OSHA certification in General or Manufacturing Industry
CPR/FA & AED trained
Experience in conducting adult training
Experience researching, developing, and implementing safety policies and procedures
Familiarity with Federal, State, and Local regulations pertaining to employment, OSHA, workers’ compensation, Americans with Disabilities Act, Family Medical Leave Act, Fair Labor Standards Act
Computer proficient in Microsoft Office
Adept problem-solver; able to identify issues and resolve in a timely manner
Strong interpersonal skills; able to communicate clearly and with a keen sense of discretion and confidentiality

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Stationary Position: frequently remains stationary up to 90% of the time and sitting up to 8 hours in a day
Move/Traverse: infrequently bend, stand, stoop and/or walk
Carry Weight: infrequently carry weight and/or lift objects (light to heavy) weighing up to 10 pounds
Hearing and Speech: frequently communicates with the ability to hear and talk on a regular basis with employees, coworkers, and all personnel matters; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
Sight: frequent use of sight to detect images on computer, office documents, and office objects near and far
Climb: occasionally ascends/descends on stairway to get to office upper and lower floors
Travel: up to 10% as needed

$31.25 – $38.45 an hour
