Vesper Energy is seeking an experienced Director of Origination & Energy Markets to lead efforts in originating, pricing, structuring, negotiating, and executing long term power offtake agreements to help commercialize a strong near-term pipeline of solar, solar + storage, and standalone storage assets.

This role will require someone with knowledge of revenue optimization, market-fundamentals, market regulatory overlay, as well as competitive bidding and pricing analysis. Responsibilities include evaluating market demand drivers, identifying target customer opportunities, leading competitive bidding efforts to RFP submission and bilateral offers, building and cultivating customer relationships, negotiating and evaluating overall finance-ability of offtake counterparties and contract structures. The Director of Origination & Energy Markets will validate and audit financial model revenue modeling results as well as ensure that settlement terms are fully vetted from a base case, downside, and upside case perspective. In addition to the external facing relationship management elements of the role, the scope requires of mix of directing and coordinating with internal and external technical and quantitative resources to meet customer and Vesper corporate needs.
Role Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, energy, engineering, business, or similar disciplines. MBA preferred.

Years of Experience: 7-10 years of experience with a strong record of execution capabilities and accomplishments in utility scale power origination, business development, and energy market fundamentals roles

Additional Skills, abilities & knowledge:
Proven record of accomplishment in successfully sourcing and executing renewable energy PPA’s with a deep understanding of energy markets and regulatory frameworks
Technically minded with deep knowledge of market mechanisms, revenue cash flows, and revenue contract terms
Strong understanding of revenue modeling and structuring, and market participant settlement terms
Proven experience negotiating and executing complex PPA structures, including hybrid battery projects and standalone storage tolling arrangements
Expertise in revenue optimization and technical modeling (throughout the life of the asset)
Confident navigating complex transactions and communicating value propositions to both internal and external stakeholders
Relationships with customers in various market segments including utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, trading houses, and corporate offtake clients
Experience in leading and managing cross-functional teams.
Knowledge of relevant industry software and tools for financial modeling and analysis.
Excellent problem-solving skills and a strategic mindset.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, develop, and execute the origination approach to market with includes – market fundamental research, identifying target customers, forming a view of project revenue thesis, bidding into RFPs, engage target customers bilaterally, and negotiating terms that meet cross functional needs across the organization to successful execution and completion.
Identify market risks, asset risks, and execution risks, as well as become an expert in development and operating risks sufficient to navigate revenue structuring, developing an offtake product, and negotiating contract terms.
Establish and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, including utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, trading houses, and corporate offtake partners, and other potential offtake partners.
Drive the negotiation and execution of long term PPAs and other revenue agreements such as capacity contracts, tolling agreements, REC agreements, hedging arrangements, VPPAs, and traditional utility PPAs, overseeing all aspects of the transaction lifecycle—due diligence, negotiation, and post-close management.
Respond to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and coordinate internal resources to deliver competitive, compelling bids that meet internal investment targets.
Collaborate with the finance team to develop commercially viable revenue cash flows (throughout the life of the asset) for financial models and conduct analyses that supports deal structuring and decision-making.
Manage and leverage technical and quantitative resources to inform decision making and transaction analysis.
Collaborate with the development, legal, EPC, transmission, operations, and finance teams to structure and negotiate contracts ensuring that all aspects align with company objectives, best practices, risk management, economic hurdle rates, and industry best practices.
Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and incentives related to renewable energy to inform decision-making and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and policies.
Prepare regular reports and presentations on origination activities, contract status, execution risk, economic drivers, and potential market opportunities.
