ContourGlobal is a leading independent power producer with a diverse portfolio of operating and under development gas-fired and renewable power assets across the United States. We are focused on expanding our energy generation portfolio through greenfield development and acquisitions, including both operating and under-development gas and renewable assets. As part of our ambitious growth plan, we are establishing a new Energy Management and Commercial function to optimize our power generation assets, manage trading activities, and spearhead strategic energy offtake deals. Commercial Asset Management is a key part of this structure, responsible for the commercial strategy implementation that maximizes value across our energy portfolio. We are seeking a seasoned leader to serve as the Sr. Commercial Asset Manager US, who will be pivotal in optimizing market dispatching and driving hedge/trading strategies.

Position overview:

The Sr. Commercial Asset Manager, will facilitate the company’s energy trading, scheduling, and market operations for both conventional gas-fired and renewable power generation assets. This role is responsible for managing trading strategies, power purchase agreements (PPAs), fuel procurement, and real-time dispatch activities in wholesale power and gas markets. This individual will drive commercial initiatives that enhance profitability, optimize asset performance, and align with risk management objectives for a defined portfolio of assets.

Key responsibilities:

Short Term Energy Trading and Market Operations:
Oversee the development and execution of commercial trading and/or bidding strategies, within the company’s risk management framework, for management and optimization of the US short term commodity and asset backed positions.
Lead all energy trading activities, including the buying and selling of power and gas, hedging strategies, and market operations in the US wholesale energy markets.
Coordinate and manage third party Energy Managers to schedule, bid, and dispatch power generation assets across day-ahead, within-day, and real-time markets, ensuring optimized performance of both conventional and renewable assets, while maintaining full compliance with ISO/RTO rules.

Power and Gas Hedging:
Assist in the development and provide the ongoing management of the company’s hedging strategies for power and gas exposure, ensuring alignment with portfolio risk management goals.
Assist with the implementation of tools and processes for executing financial and physical hedging instruments to protect against market volatility and price risks.

Other Support Functions:
Work with Origination, Business Development, and M&A on ad hoc due diligence or other structured transaction work streams.
Collaborate with Project level O&M and Finance Teams to optimize the position, while effectively managing Operations and Finance risks.
Coordinate with the Middle Office to monitor and evaluate the performance of hedging strategies, ensuring they are effectively mitigating risk while maximizing profitability.
Collaborate closely with the Middle Office to ensure that contracts and deals are structured in accordance with the company’s risk tolerance, market outlook, and regulatory requirements.
Stay abreast of market developments, competitor activity, and regulatory changes to guide commercial decision-making and contract negotiation strategies.

Fuel Procurement and Management:
Drive the implementation and management of fuel and gas procurement strategy, including fuel purchase agreements, transportation contracts, and storage optimization.
Oversee fuel procurement operations, including managing supplier relationships, negotiating fuel contracts, and optimizing transportation and storage logistics.

Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management:
Monitor and generate regularly scheduled reports on key performance indicators to all key Stakeholder. Be able to effectively communicate written and verbal commercial impacts to portfolio performance.
Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including ISO/RTO market operators, fuel suppliers, utilities, energy buyers, regulators, and service providers.
Collaborate with the Legal, Finance, and Operations Teams to ensure all contractual obligations and market participation requirements are met.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Engineering, Economics, or a related field is required.
Master’s degree (MBA, Energy Management, or Finance) is preferred.
[5+] years of experience in energy trading, power/gas markets, or commercial operations within the energy sector.
Proven track record within a Front Office function, overseeing energy trading, asset scheduling, and contract origination.
Experience with hedging instruments and fuel procurement agreements.
Extensive knowledge of US wholesale energy markets, including experience with ISO/RTO participation, power dispatch, and fuel trading.
Familiarity with both renewable and conventional energy assets, including the commercial strategies required for optimization in competitive markets.

Skills
Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, particularly in energy trading, scheduling, origination, and mid/back office.
Excellent commercial acumen, with the ability to identify and capitalize on market opportunities while mitigating risks.
Advanced understanding of power and gas trading, risk management, and market regulations within the US energy landscape.
Proficiency with energy trading and risk management systems (ETRM) and scheduling software.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
