Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling — keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2017, we’re delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.
Chemical Engineering Intern:
Redwood Materials is seeking an entrepreneurial Chemical Engineering intern during the Summer 2026 to support our research and development, pilot projects, and commercial scale production operations.
Responsibilities will include:
Supporting and leading design and modelling of chemical engineering aspects of new processes, including the creation of detailed process flow documentation
Assisting with setup, testing, and debugging of new processing operations
Conducting sample testing, pilot-scale research projects, and experiments for new processes
Desired Qualifications:
Pursuing a B.S. or advanced degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, or another discipline with significant relevant coursework
Prior internship or work experience with a leading technology company in a chemical or process engineering role, preferably with new process development
Able to operate independently conducting experiments in a wet chemistry lab
Experience with factory modeling concepts such as material flows, yields, and recovery rates
Academic or professional background in inorganic chemistry and precious metals refining
Working knowledge of major chemical and process analysis software packages
Self-motivated, hands-on mindset, with a willingness to contribute at all levels
A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place
Physical Requirements:
Ability to safely perform job duties in both office and production environments
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed
Must maintain regular and punctual attendance in alignment with company and regulatory standards
Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
Working Conditions:
Split work environment between office and the production facility
Work may involve extended periods of working in the production facility
Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time
May require working occasional weekends or alternate shifts to support production needs when necessary.
The location of the internship is in the Reno or Carson City, Nevada area (exact location is based on team placement). Interns are responsible for making their own housing and transportation arrangements. Please note that due to the location of our campuses, public transit options are limited, and the use of a personal or rented vehicle is recommended.
The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
