Summary
The Specialist I, Environmental & Sustainability supports environmental compliance activities for manufacturing operations. This role assists in maintaining regulatory compliance programs, supporting environmental permitting and reporting processes, and helping implement environmental management systems under the direction of senior environmental leadership. The Specialist I, works cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and EH&S teams to help identify environmental risks, maintain compliance documentation, and support sustainability initiatives.
Responsibilities
Assist with environmental permitting activities including air, wastewater/NPDES, storm water, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, and chemical reporting programs
Support preparation and submission of required regulatory reports such as Tier II, Form R, GHG, SPCC, and related filings
Maintain compliance calendars and tracking tools to ensure reporting deadlines are met
Support preparation of documentation for regulatory inspections and audits
Maintain organized environmental compliance records
Support implementation and maintenance of the Environmental Management System (EMS) in alignment with ISO 14001 requirements
Assist with internal environmental audits and corrective action tracking
Maintain documentation required for ISO certification and compliance
Collect and compile environmental performance data including emissions, wastewater discharge, waste generation, and sustainability metrics
Support development of environmental reports and dashboards for leadership review
Assist in identifying trends and reporting findings to senior environmental staff
Conduct routine environmental inspections within production and administrative areas
Support environmental incident investigations related to spills, releases, or compliance concerns
Assist in implementation of corrective and preventive actions
Provide support to operations and engineering teams regarding environmental procedures
Assist with sustainability initiatives including waste reduction, recycling, and energy efficiency programs
Coordinate with consultants and laboratories as directed by senior environmental staff
This position supports essential manufacturing operations and may require working day or night shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and reporting to work during emergency situations, inclement weather events, or other operational disruptions when it is safe to do so.
Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field required
Relevant internship or co-op experience preferred
May be required to respond to after-hours operational issues or emergency events in support of facility infrastructure, utilities systems, or safe plant operations.
Work Authorization
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Experience
0 – 3 years of environmental compliance, sustainability, or regulatory reporting experience
Exposure to manufacturing or industrial environments preferred
Basic understanding of environmental regulations and compliance principles
Skills
Working knowledge of EPA and state environmental regulations
Strong organizational and documentation skills
Ability to follow established processes and procedures
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to manage multiple deadlines with supervision
Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support production
Korean language proficiency preferred to support coordination with Korean headquarters, OEM partners, and technical documentation review.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to properly and regularly utilize the following PPE for a period of up to 12 hours:
Safety glasses
Steel-toed shoes
Nitrile gloves
Ear protection
Cleanroom suit
Must be able to perform the following activities repeatedly for periods of up to 12 hours:
Lift, push, and pull materials or equipment
Stoop, twist, and bend
Reach overhead
Sit and/or stand for extended periods
Use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and computer systems
Work Environment
Work may involve handling or working in proximity to hazardous materials and regulated industrial chemicals.
Exposure to chemical vapors, dust, or other controlled substances may occur depending on process assignment.
Strict adherence to company safety policies and OSHA Hazard Communication requirements is mandatory.
Employees must properly wear and maintain assigned personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times within designated areas.
Required PPE may include respirators, chemical-resistant garments, gloves, eye protection, face shields, or other equipment determined by process and risk assessment.
Exposure to noise, heat, mechanical equipment, and industrial chemicals may occur depending on system location.
Work may occur in mechanical rooms, utility areas, rooftops, or other industrial environments.
