Job Summary

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Safety Analysis Intern to join our Safety Analysis team. Your primary responsibilities will include developing analysis methodologies for fluoride salt-cooled high-temperature reactor (FHR) systems and establishing automated workflows that will improve efficiency and consistency of calculations performed by the safety analysis team. Additional responsibilities will include interfacing with design, instrumentation and control, materials, chemistry, and other teams to fully define the FHR safety case. This work will play a vital role in supporting the reactor design process and licensing our advanced reactor. This position provides a unique opportunity to work at the cutting edge of reactor safety analysis and licensing, and to contribute to the development of transformative nuclear technologies.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with team members to develop novel safety analysis methodologies.
Develop, automate, and document standardized workflows towards improving consistency and efficiency of work done across the organization.
Post-process, analyze and interpret calculation outputs to evaluate the consequences of postulated events to ensure adherence to regulatory limits.
Prepare clear technical documentation of assumptions, inputs, methods, results, and conclusions to support internal design decisions and external licensing submittals.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Currently pursuing MS or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field. Completion of Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficiency in developing simplified scoping models for complex systems
Familiarity with Python or R for model development
Familiarity with source term codes such as RADTRAD, MELCOR or MAAP
Familiarity with the MOOSE framework and derived codes such as SAM
Familiarity with LaTeX and/or Quarto for technical documentation
Familiarity with version control tools such as Git
Familiarity with containerized environments, e.g., Docker, and Github Actions
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong attention to detail
Effective communication and collaboration abilities
Ability to work with highly collaborative team
Prioritizes and ensures safety of oneself and others
Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges, and issues
