Smart-Grid

Location: Brooklyn, NY (On-site)
EnergyHub empowers utilities and their customers to create a clean, distributed energy future. We help consumers turn their smart thermostats, EVs, batteries, and other products into virtual power plants that keep the grid stable and enable higher penetration of solar and wind power.

We are looking for a Legal intern to work closely with EnergyHub’s Corporate Counsel on a variety of transactional projects to support EnergyHub’s business and technical teams. At EnergyHub, you’ll get exposure to all aspects of in-house legal work with a high-growth SaaS company focused on achieving a carbon-free, distributed energy future. You’ll gain valuable legal experience by assisting the Corporate Counsel in addressing various legal issues that we encounter in deploying our industry-leading software platform and working with leading companies in the climate tech, Internet-of-Things, renewable energy, and utility sectors.

About the job:

Our Legal team is looking for a full-time summer 2024 intern! This paid internship is planned to last for 12 weeks, from May/June to September 2024, with a commitment of 40 hours per week. This is a great opportunity to gain real world transactional legal experience working in-house while also making a positive climate impact.

Primary project:

The scope of our Legal Intern’s project work and the opportunity to gain exposure to our working environment are truly unique. As our Legal team builds out processes and documentation to support contracting volume and risk management, we want to support your development as a lawyer-in-training. Your project will focus on building a contracts database to capture key provisions from our negotiated utility client contracts and device partner integration agreements; these both sit at the heart of our mission. The EnergyHub Legal Intern will take a lead role in building out resources for our internal business units, including a market-leading Sales playbook for negotiating non-standard terms and a summary of contractual security obligations to guide our Product team to develop exciting new initiatives.

Throughout this summer internship program, as our Legal Intern, you will become a dynamic participant focused on supporting our Legal team’s capabilities and while also having the opportunity to be mentored by EnergyHub’s in-house Corporate Counsel on both strategic and day-to-day work. Complementing your primary project, this work will include contract negotiations and a range of client support in our mission-driven focus.

During your internship, you will:

Familiarize yourself with current contract templates and fundamental negotiating points
Perform a comprehensive review of existing contracts, analyze and summarize key terms
Organize existing internal resources and develop additional resources to fill gaps
Join our Corporate Counsel in active contract negotiations to gain an understanding of key terms for our clients and partners
Contribute to our team culture and inclusive workplace environment

What we need:

You are currently pursuing a J.D. at an ABA-accredited law school in the greater NYC area or other location that allows you to work from EnergyHub’s Brooklyn offices at least three days per week during the Summer of 2024
You have excellent organizational, communication and project management skills, and a demonstrated attention to detail
You have a desire to use your legal skills to help support green technology and advance a clean energy future
You feel comfortable working with Microsoft Excel and/or Google Spreadsheets on basic daily tasks

Bonus:

Knowledge of business transactions and corporate law
Experience of using Monday.com to organize work

The hourly pay for this position is $35.00. Compensation may vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
