Purpose:
BayWa r.e. Americas is seeking a Civil Project Engineer to join our Engineering team.
The Civil Project Engineer will coordinate and manage internal engineering and third-party consultants during early-stage site diligence, preliminary site studies, and permitting for utility scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and PV projects. The Civil Project Engineer will support projects from concept to completion, ensuring regulatory compliance and permitting throughout.
They will help coordinate with cross-functional teams, including engineering subject matter experts, developers, and project managers. They will manage the project budget, timeline and ensure that deliverables are met on time. The Civil Project Engineer is expected to review pre-construction and EPC deliverables, provide feedback on SWMP, SWPPP, Hydrology Studies, and Civil Design Plan sets, and collaborate closely with the Development department.
Responsibilities we will trust you with:
Provide comprehensive engineering support, including early-stage site evaluations, interconnection application support, and management of third-party service providers ensuring regulatory compliance for PV, BESS, and Hybrid projects of 100 MW and greater in size.
Use CAD or other drafting software to create and manage internal PV, BESS, and Hybrid layouts, ensuring compliance with internal and industry standards as well as site-specific authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
Develop and review scopes of work and oversee execution of required studies (e.g., ALTA/Topo, geotechnical, civil and foundation design), while partnering with the Contracts Team to manage RFPs, evaluate pricing, issue task orders, and approve invoices for completed deliverables.
Serve as the primary engineering interface to development and project management teams, providing technical support for land control, environmental, permitting, and interconnection processes, while representing BayWa in project meetings, leading technical discussions, and communicating engineering actions across teams.
Collaborate with GIS Department in process of constraint and buildable area creation and to make sure our latest designs get represented in Company GIS tool.
Provide technical engineering support and coordination to the project team throughout the design and construction phases, integrating cross-functional team members and external consultation.
Supporting the Estimation department with engineering documentation and quantities.
Providing high-level Civil-design analysis of EPC deliverables using latest CAD software to ensure quality of submittals and adherence to contract specifications.
Conduct site visits (10–15% travel) to identify risks, perform field inspections, and provide engineering support across development and construction phases.
Supporting project value and cost optimization with grading, layout, and pile design analyses.
Your areas of knowledge and expertise:
Three to Five (3-5) years of experience in utility scale project development or EPC service.
Experience working with AHJs and coordinating engineering documents to fulfill regional requirements.
Knowledge of the solar development permitting processes and be able to provide guidance to Development team members on necessary procedures for permit approval.
Experience in performing grading analysis and cut-and-fill analysis.
Experience in hydrology/drainage and stormwater analysis.
Experience in permitting utility scale PV and BESS projects is a plus.
Experience in preliminary site feasibility studies for Solar, BESS and Wind projects based on site visual surveys, desktop studies using available databases that classify soil, topography, environmental constraints, and other conditions that may affect project feasibility or cost.
High proficiency with industry standard software widely used in geotechnical analysis and design, AutoCAD, Civil3D, PVdesign, PVSyst, PV Case, GIS, and other applicable software, in addition to MS Excel, MS Project, and the MS Office suite.
Professional Engineer (PE) licensing strongly preferred.
Functioning well under pressure and allowing cross departmental collaboration before starting engineering efforts to ensure design does not impact additional agreements or permits.

The salary range for this role is $110,000 – $130,000.
