Responsibilities: The Advisor of Policy and Government Affairs plays a pivotal role in tracking, developing, and responding to policies and programs that ensure the company’s awareness of legislation and energy policy issues that impact its operations. This role involves developing internal policy positions and coordinating forums with government officials to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information on business activities. They will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to understand and shape policies that enable project success.
Success in this role involves:
Developing and executing BayWa’s federal and state government affairs strategy
Monitoring various day-to-day policy and regulatory developments and implementation across the United States (federal and state policy, with an emphasis on federal)
Supporting various departments within BayWa r.e., including the Commercial, Development, and Procurement teams, to help leverage policy/political support
Developing thorough understanding of market/policy drivers (e.g. trade, tax, geopolitics) that shape BayWa r.e.’s ability to develop projects and support team understanding of political risk
Building and maintaining a network of contacts at federal and state legislative offices, agencies, and other governmental entities
Facilitating dialogue and convening discussions on emerging policies and regulations across internal departments within BayWa r.e.
Maintain relationships with trade associations and represent BayWa r.e.’s point of view across various committees and working groups, including at conferences, events, etc.
Assist with authoring and reviewing policy-related content for internal and external dissemination, including but not limited to presentation materials, social media posts, talking points, summaries, position papers, and reports
The ideal candidate demonstrates:
Bachelor’s degree required; relevant advanced degree (e.g., J.D., MPP, environmental policy, or planning) is a plus
4+ years of experience in regulatory affairs, permitting, energy policy, or a related field
History of working with federal and state agencies, public utility commissions, RTOs, and/or through regulatory proceedings; experience with federal trade policy a plus
Core understanding of policies and regulations across multiple markets; utility rate tariff experience a plus
Strong political acumen, negotiation skills, and ability to navigate sensitive stakeholder environments
Excellent communication, interpersonal, listening, and presentation skills
Maintains composure and compassion under pressure
High level of professionalism with commitment to confidentiality

Total compensation package dependent upon a number of factors, including candidate’s professional experience, candidate’s skills, position’s seniority level, department’s hiring budget, and position’s location
The salary range for this role is $120,000- $150,000 depending on experience
