Scope
PowerFlex, an EDF Renewables company, is a leading national provider of intelligent onsite energy solutions that support carbon-free electrification and transportation. The Director of Financing is responsible for successful financing of Powerflex’s distributed energy projects such as solar, solar-plus-storage and/or EVSE. The role oversees all financing aspects of the renewable energy projects, including risk assessment, project returns/economics, contract negotiations, diligence, and transaction structuring. The role leads/manages day-to-day activities of the financing department, sets commercial standards to ensure bankability of assets, and negotiates key financing agreements. The role works across the company’s legal, project development, sales, engineering, and construction teams to manage critical activities around asset financing in order to drive company revenue and profit generation from Third-Party Owned (TPO) projects.
Location
This role is open to be 100% remote or a hybrid role out of one of our offices (Mountain View, CA, San Diego, CA or New York, NY.)

Responsibilities
Ensure efficient and timely closing of financing of TPO projects developed by the company. Key responsibilities include:
Oversee a team responsible of all phases of transaction execution, including investor due diligence, project marketing/solicitation, financing terms & price negotiation, bid evaluation/analysis, structuring, financial modeling, and transaction closing.
Monitor the project pipeline to identify which projects will require financing.
Plan the timing of financing efforts in order to avoid construction delays.
Negotiate key financing contracts (e.g., MIPAs, EPCs, etc.) with investors and other commercial agreements with counterparties.
Work with advisors and internal and external legal personnel with respect to the structuring, negotiation and closing of financing deals.
Establish/manage relationships with investors and financial institutions and maintain an investor database.
Support Power Purchase Agreement and Lease contract negotiations and ensure financeability of contracts signed.
Set commercial standards to ensure bankability of the projects and provide guidance on return thresholds for projects with non IG offtakers.
Oversee project cash flow modeling of TPO projects and guide the business development team on offtake rate analyses in competitive situations and in cases that are outside of standard financing guidelines.
Drive risk management along with project development team to ensure that projects earmarked for financing meet contract standard criteria, adhere to internal requirements, and maintain detailed diligence documentation.
Deliver actional recommendations to the executive team on financing matters, and prepare/secure Board Approvals for financing transactions.
Identify and drive initiatives to continuously improve and/or automate business processes across Powerflex, with a focus on tools or processes related to financing.
Implement processes for financing of a fund’s projects per fund’s investment agreement, including
Arrange fund financing (tax equity, transferability, etc.)
Implement/improve funds processes including standard forms of notice, contracts, shared model, share OPEX assumptions, DD checklist.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics; MBA, CFA or JD a plus
5-7 years progressive experience in finance roles, at least 3 of which focused on solar or other renewable energy financing.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
Proven experience in renewables finance, with a minimum of 5-7 years
Deep understanding of project finance, including an exceptional overall understanding of finance and experience with detailed project finance concepts such as tax equity structures.
Strong understanding of financing contracts and ability to quickly and efficiently markup and gather comments to transaction documents.
First rate financial modelling skills, including the ability to train junior staff, quickly check their work, or jump in and do-it-yourself when needed.
Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams.
Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

Compensation
The pay range for this position is $148,000 – $247,000 annually. This position is eligible for PowerFlex’s comprehensive Health and Welfare plans including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan and paid time off. The total compensation for this position may include an annual performance bonus (or other incentive compensation, as applicable). PowerFlex’s compensation packages carefully consider a candidate’s qualifications, experiences, and education in relation to the position.

Supervises staff (approx. 1-5 people), including hiring, scheduling, and assigning work, reviewing performance, and recommends salary increases, promotions, transfers, demotions, or terminations

This role is responsible for team budget and travel.
Physical Requirements
Remaining in a seated position. Long hours on computer keyboard. Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking. Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 25 pounds occasionally.
Working Conditions
Approximately 90% of the time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers, telephones, and general office equipment. Frequent travel for conferences or meetings should be expected.
